Riding the Noto

As I finished recording the Noto entering the platform, it was time to get on board. For this ride, I reserved the Ladies Car, a women’s only car on the train.
The Ladies Car provides many amenities, including curtaining at the wash sinks and women-only toilets. It also doesn’t let people outside of the train to see inside, so that women can feel safe and enjoy the train ride.
One hour after leaving Ueno. The lights went dim and the train fell silent. As for myself, I took a nap for a while as well.

Just before five in the morning, I woke myself up, rubbing my sleepy eyes, so that I could record the scenery outside the window.
Unfortunately, it was still pitch black and I couldn’t see anything. In the summer, you can usually see the sunrise on the Sea of Japan, but with it being winter, it was even too dark to see the sea.
At around 5:30am, as the morning broadcast began with some soft music, the train car lights were brought up again. At around 6am, the sunlight began to brighten up the outside, and so I started to record the scenery.
I wanted to use the mini-tripod, but the windowsill was too small, so I decided not to. I placed the Everio directly onto the windowsill and began recording. I was a bit worried about the shaking of the train, but since I was using the Advanced Image Stabilizer, I had no problems recording.

Goodbye to the Noto
Just a little bit later than the scheduled 7am arrival, the Noto arrived at Kanazawa Station. Thinking what a shame this was, being my last ride on the Noto, I disembarked onto the Kanazawa Station platform. Even though it was early Saturday morning, many people gathered at Kanazawa Station to bid their farewell to the Noto.
I also watched the Noto leave the platform, until it disappeared from view. Of course, I recorded all of this as well!

Although it’s sad that we will not see the Noto anymore, I made sure that the morning scenery as seen from the Noto window was recorded on the Everio. Now I can see it whenever I want. This is a video that I will keep forever!
This is just an extra FYI…
I found out later that my father was actually a big fan of the Noto, and he really wanted a copy of this video! Since burning a copy to a DVD is as easy as pressing the "Create Disc" button on the Everio MediaBrowser, I think I will give my dad a Noto DVD present!
