Everio Video Hunters! In-Car Video Challenge!

To all of the Everio fans that love to drive

For any car lover who gets hold of the Everio, there is no doubt a wish to video the sights while cruising in your favorite vehicle. Actually, when I (Toshi), went off with Ayako on her GPS recording shoot as her support driver, we really wanted to try in-vehicle video recording and decided to give it a shot. I will be covering our discoveries in this blog. We used the GZ-HM550 for this recording.

Starting off: Setting up the camera in the car

Before setting off, you need to make sure that the Everio is completely secure within the vehicle. Although there are in-vehicle mounts that can be found retail, I used a mini-tripod to create a makeshift mount this time around. It’s simple. First, remove all but one of the legs of the mini-tripod and then secure the mini-tripod to the dashboard using masking tape. As long as you secure the mini-tripod in fitting with the dashboard’s shape, you shouldn’t have any problems. Now, all you have to do is fix the Everio on to the mini-tripod.

Now it’s time to start recording the in-car video

After the camera was securely mounted, I adjusted the angle and we were off. All that was left to do was to press the ‘record’ button after we reached our recording destination. However, since it is extremely dangerous, please don’t try to operate a camcorder while driving a vehicle. I actually could have started recording before I started driving, but since Ayako was sitting in the passenger seat this time, I asked her to take control of the camera.

First, we headed towards Kisarazu from the Umi Hotaru.
As we descended the Aqua Bridge, the sea spread before us on both sides.

We continued with a U-turn and headed towards Kawasaki City.
We saw the Umi Hotaru near the end. From here, it was the underwater tunnel.

With the empty roads and beautiful weather, it felt really good to be driving above the sea. When we got back and checked the video, we were surprised at how dynamic it was. It was much better than we expected. We felt we were able to experience yet another charm of the camcorder with the in-vehicle video challenge. Since the Advanced Image Stabilizer was working well, the video barely showed any shaking and was therefore a pleasure to watch, even on a large-screen TV.

Also, since I was worried the camcorder might experience some bumps along the way, I asked our Tech Team if this might be an issue. They reassured me that as long as we drove on paved roads, there shouldn’t be any problem.
I hope you will all take care, and enjoy another new way to have fun with the Everio.
